Matt Dunn

Matt Dunn established dh insight in 2007 with Kate Hunt, following their extensive market research careers in higher education and the wider public sector. Today Matt is the director and principal consultant for dh insight.

He has significant experience of both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies in education, the public and corporate sectors. His skills are underpinned by a background in psychological research and theory; an interest that also led to his accreditation as an HE lecturer by the Open University. As principal consultant and project manager he is able to apply this wide skill set to research projects.

Matt has extensive experience in stakeholder research for the public sector, and has led many brand and corporate identity research projects. He is an accomplished interviewer and has a proven track record in delivering highly actionable stakeholder perception reports. He is adept with e-survey design and analysis, and has conducted many quantitative investigations for clients in the UK and international markets.

He is skilled at managing multi-faceted research projects for both education and public sector bodies. Such projects have involved researching a wide range of stakeholder groups from young people through to senior managers.

Recent areas of research investigation in HE have included:

  • Tuition fees and related financial incentives
  • Staff and student perceptions
  • Decliners’ and new starters’ surveys
  • internal communications audits
  • Testing of marketing communications materials
  • Potential student research

Before setting up dh insight, Matt worked as a Senior Consultant for an education market research agency and prior to that at both the University of Derby and the Open University. Having worked on both the agency and client side, his focus has always been on providing the effective evidence necessary for decision-making in an actionable and reader-friendly format.

Matt is a graduate of Nottingham Trent University and is currently studying for an Executive MBA in Entrepreneurship at the University of Nottingham (part-time). He is also an Associate Member of The Market Research Society, The British Psychological Society and The Higher Education Academy.
